This is the San Francisco Open Mic Poetry Podcast TV Show with John Rhodes and Clara Hsu. Today we are having on Marvin Hiemstra and Jeffrey Lilly. Here are their BIOS.

Marvin R. Hiemstra hatched on the windswept Iowa prairie near Pella, a Dutch-settled town of four thousand simultaneous monologues twenty-four/seven: birth to death and beyond.

Words have always been very big in Marvin’s life. Marvin studied with Donald Justice in the State University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop and earned an MA in Literary Criticism at Indiana University. After a year in Amsterdam, the first of many joyful returns to Marvin’s complex and knotty roots, the poet settled in San Francisco with his mate of 45 years, Lloyd L. Neilson.

Marvin R. Hiemstra is an award-winning poet, humorist, founding Editor-in-Chief of the Bay Area Poets Seasonal Review, critic, and entertainer who publishes and performs everywhere. David Alpaugh, called Marvin’s new collection, Poet Wrangler: droll poems, “a delicious poetic treat! ” All poems in that book are about recalcitrant poets or poems on the loose. About Poet Wrangler Kate McDonald said, “It’s the laughing and thinking at the same time that I love.”

Jeffrey Lilly is a gay Jewish poet who was born in Boston. He was awarded an AB degree in Political Science from Duke University.
He has masters degrees in Russian Language and Literature and Comparative Literature from San Francisco State.
In December of 1996, he was inducted into Phi Sigma Iota, The International Foreign Language Honor Society. He also has an honors certificate in the Russian language from Syracuse University.
Jeffrey Lilly is a former board member of The National Poetry Association. He has read widely from his work in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has produced a CD of a music-poetry recording, 'Promised Land Poems'. It includes music by Hans Christian Reumschuessel of Allemande Music (www.allemandemusic.com); as well as Jeffrey’s readings of his own poetry.
Jeffrey has also produced “The Butterfly Flies,” a poetry music recording with the composer and musician, Jonathan Comisar (www.jonathancomisar.com) .
Jeffrey Lilly is also co-editor with Jack Mueller of a literary and artistic “quilt,” an anthology of work by writers and artists who have died of AIDS. This work is sponsored by The National Poetry Association. Relatedly, Mr. Lilly is director of The Living Word Projecct, a project of the NPA.
At the present time Jeffrey is working on a novel about a Russian émigré writer.
