Episode Description:

Chatting With History: Galileo. Listen as Galileo recounts his tale as the son of a lutenist who was no Jimi Hendrix and how he toyed with being a monk and then a doctor before convincing dad he loved math and natural philosophy. Follow him as he set out to disprove many acceptable Aristotelian concepts and supplement his income as a teacher with money-making inventions, most notably the telescope, which he trained on the heavens because the looking in the windows of his neighbors was so boring. Hear him describe his discovering the four major moons of Jupiter which led him to support Copernicus by advocating heliocentrism; an advocacy that would get him into trouble for the Catholic Church. Lastly, listen as he tells 2013 America to wake up and that the war against science belongs in his day, not ours.
