After Medea Benjamin spoke at the Membership Renewal Gathering sponsored by the Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) http://www.peacecoalition.org/ at the Trinity Church 33 Mercer Street, Princeton, NJ on March 16, 2014 she granted me with a special one on one interview to elaborate and clear up specifics regarding why she had gone to Egypt, her jailing and injuries sustained in Egypt, what happened to the group of people she was with, why she was in Egypt and what happened to her party and her after she was released from jail and was put on a plane to Turkey and then to the US.
She talks about her injuries to her shoulder, the many Egyptians and reporters that are facing, incarceration, torture and/an death by the Egyptian police.
She clarifies misstatements made by the US State Department when she was asking for assistance when she was jailed. She elaborates that she has asked the state department to answer 15 questions regarding their actions while she was jailed in Egypt.
Medea Benjamin is an American political activist, best known for co-founding Code Pink http://www.codepink4peace.org/ and, along with activist and author Kevin Danaher, the fair trade advocacy group Global Exchange. Benjamin was also the Green Party candidate in California in 2000 for the United States Senate.
The Los Angeles Times has described her as "one of the high profile leaders" of the peace movement and in 1999, San Francisco Magazine included her on its "power list" of the "60 Players Who Rule the Bay Area."
