Episode Description:

The Puritans lose some of their influence after the last civil war, but the entire country is enraged when King James II converts to Catholicism.

He's also in a power struggle with Parliament from the moment he takes the throne. Parliament's Act of Settlement forever removes James, his son and grandson from succeeding to the throne. With no other Englishmen in line, the crown goes to the German house of Hanover. The Hanovers rule in a time of change; new worlds are discovered and England extends its empire, but the reign is not popular. Constitutional monarchy develops, for King George is really not paying attention to the country. His grandson, King George III, is loved in England but hated in the colonies and we look at the reign of George III through English eyes, seeing the American Revolution as a war of secession.
