Episode Description:

The Best Practices series focuses on the most effective research-based instructional strategies that increase student engagement and lead to student success. The series provides tangible and practical classroom applications to guide educators through how to make the strategies work. This installment focuses on Critical and Creative Thinking.

Strategies for critical and creative thinking are about “teaching up” — to extend the learning process for every learner in every content area. This collection of previously recorded stories shows how classroom teachers use critical and creative strategies to infuse their instruction with higher level thinking skills. A snapshot of critical and creative strategies in action includes how to conduct a Socratic Seminar in addition to other critical and creative thinking strategies: fluency, originality, flexibility and elaboration (FOFE), point of view, decisions and outcomes, visualization, plus, minus and interesting (PMI), and encapsulation.
