Episode Description:

Think about it for a moment – millions out of work, a nation in despair, America’s most valuable resources; its land and its people were being wasted. Quite a challenge for a new President, but the year is not 2008, but 1932 and the President is Franklin Delano Roosevelt. One of his first major actions, the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps, was to get people back to work. So join us as Along the Blackstone Episode #66 explores the story of the CCC’s whose motto, “We Can Take It!” was proven time and time again as they built National Parks, multiple state parks throughout the nation, cleaned up after the ’37 Hurricane, put out wildfires and performed countless other major public service works. Part of the resources used for this story were oral histories by former C’s who helped us understand what life was like back in the ‘30’s in a CCC Camp.
