2009 UniBank Blackstone River Valley Greenway Challenge Triathlon

The 9th annual UniBank Blackstone River Valley Greenway Challenge occurred on September 26, 2009. The route brought athletes and volunteers through the region beginning at Waters Farm in Sutton, Massachusetts, and through 47.3 miles ending at Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln Rhode Island. The course navigated the Blackstone River Valley region and featured many recreational opportunities for running, biking and paddling through back roads, trails, the Blackstone River, the Blackstone River Bikeway and the Blackstone Canal.

The seventy-nine teams, representing each of the six competing divisions were led to places such as the Southern New England Trunkline Trail (SNETT), the Blackstone Gorge, and Albion Falls. A running route brought the participants to the less recognized Cobble Hill in Rhode Island, which has since been unofficially named by our athletes “Heart Break Hill of the Blackstone”.

The Greenway Challenge volunteer team of 14 photographers captured the day. This show tells the story of the day.
