This award winning film was produced in New Hampshire in 2010. In the early twentieth century the city of Berlin, NH, became the largest producer of paper in the world. It remained an industrial force until the 1970’s when, like many other industrial cities across America, a recession and the globalization of the industry brought the city to its knees. This 90-minute video is the story of that city and its struggle to maintain its historical and cultural heritage into the twenty-first century.
"At the River’s Edge" drew heavily on the Brown Company Photograph Collection at Plymouth State University’s Spinelli Archives. A Blind Squirrel Productions produced the film in association with the Berlin & Coos County Historical Society, Historic New England, and the Timberlane Regional School District. At the Alliance for Community Media’s 2010 Hometown Video national competition, the film was awarded Honorable Mention for the Documentary Profile: Non-Professional category.
