Efficiency Maine Refrigerator Recycling Program is a new program offered by Efficiency Maine pays residents $50 dollars to have old energy consuming refrigerators and freezers recycled. By recycling old units, which can use up to three times the energy as new models, customers can save up to $250/yr in electricity.
This program, launched in January, not only benefits customers, it helps safely remove old refrigerators from the electric grid while also preventing materials from going in Maine landfills. Old appliances are hauled to an EPA-approved facility to be recycled. The process returns up to 95 percent of the appliances’ components back into the manufacturing stream to become any number of new products, from mobile phones to construction rebar. The removal of the appliances is at no cost to the customers and there is no purchase necessary to participate.

The Efficiency Maine Refrigerator Recycling program is a unique program offered to the state of Maine residents. Residents are offered a $50 rebate and the opportunity to save on future electric costs by recycling their old fridges and freezers with Efficiency Maine. There is no purchase necessary to participate and pickup is free. In addition, residents are helping the environment by getting energy hogs off Maine's electric grid and toxic gases out of the environment.
